Far Flung Geezers: The Competition

Richard Bates
The image:
This photo was taken at the end of the Round the Isle of Wight yacht race on Saturday 23rd June 2002, and is aboard "Camarillo" and is in fact the first public outing of Richard Bates in the legendary Trews.

Having woken the entire crew up at 6.00 am and immediately putting the entire marina in hysterics, the Trews made it round the IoW in around nine hours. They got a bit damp, and the beer got spilled, but they survive for the next season, though at least 2 boats blame them for causing 2 collisions on the course.
The score:
Well it doesn't get many points for linear distance from the Stoop but Richard does well with the difficulty of getting to the position as well as getting an extra points for it being the first water borne entry. The trews are worn and he is sporting an NEC shirt (although I would have thought a life jacket would have been coompulsory but perhaps it would have clashed with the trews to an unbearable degree). The Isle of Wight may not be as exciting a backdrop as the Colosseum for example but it is better than some.
All in all the Committee has awarded Richard Bates a very creditable 370 points.

All entries must be sent to theprofessor@diamondgeezers.org.uk by 1st October 2002
